9/24 Physics update and homework due 10/1

Hi folks,

Today we spent time diving into the concepts of motion, speed and velocity.  We also did a lab where the students had to find the speed of a dart shot out of a Nerf gun.  For homework this week, please do all the questions on the enclosed .pdf.  I've included a second .pdf with the answers so be sure to check your answers.  There will be a quiz on this material next week so be sure you feel comfortable with these problems.

Good luck,

Recording of 9/17 Physics class - Motion is relative

https://youtu.be/PDbNAQMpzFQ

9/17 Physics update and homework due 9/24

Hi folks,

First off, I think I am still missing some emails for some of the students.  For some reason my email program failed to save any of the emails I entered last week.  Parents, please check and see if your child is missing from the list.  If so, I'd appreciate it if you could give me their address.  Thank you!

Today we began our study on linear motion. We took a look at how all motion is relative and we introduced some vocabulary for motion, speed, distance, displacement, velocity and acceleration.

Read 10 - 16 and 21-23 in your Conceptual Physics text

Do Review Questions on pg 25 #'s 1- 14

For Extra Credit do any one of the 3 activities on pg. 26

Class is ON

OK folks. Looks like enough folks are ready to venture out.

See y'all around 10! Be safe.

Re: Re-Check about Physics Class today

Thought we were making it - just lost power with a spectacular pop of the transformer.  However, we are good to come to physics.

At least one lane is closed on 64 east bound at 55 due to flooding so people should be aware of that. (Reported an hour ago)

Re-Check about Physics Class today

Hi folks,

Well, it looks like Florence may still be causing trouble. From the weather websites we should be done with major precipitation this morning. More to come this afternoon. However, I'm hearing reports of flooded roads and power outages.

How do folks feel? I'm certainly willing to make the drive down. Please let me know if you aren't planning to come. If too few folks are going to be there we'll let class go for this morning.

Thanks everyone.

Physics Class is ON for Monday

Hi folks,

From what I'm hearing, it sounds like the roads should be passable for class tomorrow. Please let me know if, for some reason, you can't make it and please be safe. I record all my classes so if you can't be there you can always watch the recording.

I hope everyone was nice, safe and comfortable through these past few days.

Best,
Jim Mueller

Science Jim classes next week

Hi folks,

Well, we're heading into the unknown here and with that in mind I figured I'd put a little plan together regarding classes for next week.

My plan is to email folks to let them know if class is a go or not.  However, my big worry at the moment for my location is loss of power/internet.  So, if you don't hear from me, assume class is OFF.

Please don't hesitate to contact me to let me know if you won't be able to make it to class for any reason.  If most folks can't make it to class we may cancel class due to lack of attendance.

My phone # is (919) 907-3217 if you wish to text or call for information about class.  Assuming my phone is still operational and has power I will get back to you ASAP.

Here's hoping this email is for not and all will be well for all of us next week!

My best wishes for safety and comfort for everyone next week!

9/10 Physics Class - Intro to Class

Hi folks,

Each day after class, I will be sending and email with a short description of what we did in class as well as the homework that is due next week.

This week we spent some time going over class expectations and the grading procedures. We also spent a bit of time discussing why science is necessary and how it is done.

Homework for next week is:

Read pages 1 - 7 In the Conceptual Physics text
Do Review Questions 1 - 10 on page 8
Do Think and Explain questions 1 - 3 on page 8

By the way, my email address list failed me so, parents, if you wouldn't mind, could you please pass on this information to your children. Thank you!

Best,
Jim Mueller
